Living in Castleberry Hill

Atlanta Lofts

So, it has been about 3 months since I moved into my loft in Castleberry Hill, prior to moving here I have been asked from numerous clients about how the neighborhood is, now that I live here I can actually say what it is like!  Honestly, I adore Castleberry Hill, at first, I was a bit apprehensive because I was moving from Glenwood Park in East Atlanta which also has quite a bit of retail opening up, so initially I was bit depressed because I thought I wouldn't have as much to walk to, however, I have found that CH does have quite a bit too offer as far as restaurants.  I already have my favorites at each place.   For those of you who are not familiar with what restaurants Castleberry has, below is a brief outline.

Slice - Excellent hot sandwiches and pizza!  Service at times can be very slow.

Studio Grille - Excellent Crab Cakes.  Small but cozy atmosphere.

No Mas Cantina - Love the bar and outdoor patio.  Great Sangria and Fried Plaintains, entrees are average.

Wasibi - Excellent Sushi, tad expensive though.

M BAR - Excellent Mojitos

Elliots Pub and Deli - haven't tried their food yet.

From what I have heard that is going to be several other new restaurants opening up in the near future so I am really looking forward to that.

As far as the area itself, it really is a nice walkable area.  I am a late night person and on numerous occasions I have taken my dog for a walk around the corner late at night and never really felt unsafe. I find it rather interesting when clients of mine first ride around the neighborhood their initial response is that the area is too “transitional” for them.  I always respond by telling them that they have to meet the people who live here and usually once they do, they tend to warm up to the area quite quickly.

I have a couple of gripes about the neighborhood though, first is the homeless shelter down the street.  Since I have an office here as well that is open during business hours I usually get at least 5 homeless people walking in and asking for beer, cigarettes, food, etc…that is starting to tick me off.  However, most of them will work for it, so sometimes they come in handy especially when I need my car washed or need help moving stuff.  I don't mind giving out food or money as long as they are willing to work for it!  I also find it very interesting that there are so many of them that need money for MARTA so they can visit a dying relative. They really should collaborate with one another as to which story they are going to use to hustle money out of people. The dying relative story has been way overused.

The other gripe that I have is the amount of trash on the streets and the sidewalks.  Ugh. We certainly could use more trash cans and the sidewalks need some repairs.  Some cool brick sidewalks would really class this place up!

All in all, I love Castleberry Hill and love loft living.  I am actually thinking about opening another business within my loft since it is zoned live/work but I haven't figured out what as of yet nor do I really know first hand about opening something that is retail.   If any residents of CH have any ideas please let me know!

Loft Art!

Atlanta Lofts

Currently our loft office, located in Castleberry Hill, is featuring Loft artwork done by artist, A.B. Lovell.  I adore A.B.'s work and it really is a perfect fit for any loft!  A.B uses various combinations of metal powders, plaster, wax, epoxy, shellac, tar and resin are layered onto constructed wooden surfaces and then subjected to abrasion, carving, and oxidation. True green and blue hues are derived from oxidized copper, brass and bronze, while rusted iron and steel produce rich earth tones. Lovell continues experimentation with different materials and techniques to achieve true elemental color and form.

Feel free to stop by our office to check out his work!
